I met David Lee Murphy in 1996 when I moved to Nashville. I was working for his publicist and one day he came into my office and asked if he could take a nap on my couch. That memory still makes me laugh as I was fresh out of college trying to be a serious adult but at the same time, I was a HUGE country music fan. He was kind of a big deal and I was just a bit starstruck. Websites were still kind of a novelty back then and not a lot of people had official sites yet. David Lee and his crew were feeding info to a fan site and calling it a day. I told him that he really should have his own official site and the rest is history. He said to build him one so I did and I’ve been doing it ever since. When he comes around here he lets me hang out and roam the stage freely which really REALLY spoils me as a photographer. The access I get is amazing and I am so grateful that he lets me do that. David Lee is genuinely a great guy – down to earth, humble and he doesn’t let all that having “written some of the greatest country songs on the planet” thing go to his head.
