You’re going to see a lot of photos of my daughter here. School photos these days are taken with a green screen and then parents are “given a choice” of pre-determined backgrounds that not only look fake but tacky. As Michaela (my daughter) made her way through school, I quickly became totally disinterested in the school photos because they were just BAD. I always joked that she was the most photographed child on the planet and while I can’t prove that, I can easily say that I literally have tens of thousands of photos of this girl of mine taken in the past 20-something years. She is well documented.
While concert photography is my heart, portraits are very important to me. I am not a fan of ultra-posed images. What do I mean by that? I mean pictures of people that don’t reflect who they really are. Let’s face it, most of us are not Vogue models and our portraits shouldn’t reflect that. As the person behind the lens, I like to find the humanity of the pictures I take and my favorites are always the ones that aren’t posed and planned out. My favorites are the spontaneous moments… the genuine smiles. The laughter.
