I started photographing Rick in earnest in 2011 after getting my first dSLR and when I got involved with the fan documentary An Affair of the Heart (I built their website, created their graphics, did some light photography). I had always loved photography and back in college, I managed a photo lab. I was used to film cameras. This was my first serious digital camera. After capturing the photo that would go on to grace the cover of Zoot – The Reunion album (Rick’s band from Australia), I caught Rick’s attention with a close up I took at a show in Orlando in 2012. Not long after that, he sent me a lil’ personal note…
Great great photos. You are awesome at this. I love the subtle colorizing you do too
You can email me anytime at this address.
Thanks and Xoxo

That started years long correspondence that I will always treasure and opportunities to photograph his shows up close and personal, including his Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony in 2014 which will always be a professional/personal highlight for me. My inner 10 year old who saw her first rock concert in 1982 – Rick Springfield at the Concord Pavilion in Concord, CA – still freaks out from time to time!

The shot that almost never was…..I snapped this photo on the Rick Springfield & Friends Cruise in 2011 when he reunited with his Australian band, ZOOT. I almost didn’t go to this concert. We had just spent the day in Grand Cayman and were enjoying the solitude on our balcony, watching the flying fish (Yes! FLYING FISH!) and decided at the last minute that this could be the only time I would see this band play live. Almost prophetic because this was indeed the last time they played together before lead singer, Darryl Cotton got sick and passed away. His dying wish was to have this show released on CD and this shot of mine ended up at his bedside while he was in hospital. Later it was chosen as the album’s cover. It is an honor that I am very proud of.
