One of the coolest things I have ever gotten to do was be part of the “press pool” for the Rick Springfield Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. I had written to the Walk of Fame folks asking for a press pass. I wasn’t expecting an answer, let alone any interest. I was just a fan who, at the time ran a fan Facebook page and website (I don’t do that anymore. Fandoms are brutal and when it stops being fun, it’s time to move on). Well, word got back to management. I was questioned by Rick’s web/social media guy and ultimately was given permission to hang with the other photographers from various media outlets. SUPER COOL!
Rick spotted me right away. He played it up for the camera and it was a fun morning. Later, he asked me to compile the photos into a photo book for his mum who was back home in Australia. Her age prevented her from being there in person but he told me that he was going to visit her and he wanted to share the memories from that day with her. It was honor to put the book together for his Mum.
